Auray, Morbihan Gulf
An authentic, unspoilt area between land and sea
Enjoy the ideal location of Le Cadoudal to discover Auray, a town of art and history with two historic quarters: the upper town around the Saint-Gildas church and the lower town on the banks of the Loch with the famous Saint-Goustan harbour.
The town has retained its charm of yesteryear, which can be seen in the cobbled streets lined with beautiful half-timbered houses and its picturesque squares: the Place de la République with its town hall and belfry, and the Place aux Roues with its restaurant terraces and galleries. Take a stroll down the beautiful and atypical rue du Château and you'll be amazed by the many boutiques, where activity and a relaxed way of life blend harmoniously. The Rue du Belzic also has plenty of shops for connoisseurs. After a slightly steep descent, there's a lovely view of Saint-Goustan harbour. Cross the characterful stone bridge and enjoy the restaurants and lively quaysides lined with beautiful timber-framed houses. Near Auray, Sainte-Anne d'Auray, on the Pilgrim's Way to Santiago de Compostela, is the first Catholic pilgrimage site in Bretagne. Take time to visit its neo-Gothic basilica.
20 minutes away is Vannes, with its ramparts, flower gardens, old houses and harbour... Morbihan can also be explored along its coastline, particularly the magnificent Gulf, a small inland sea 21km long and 5km wide, dotted with the islands and islets that make it so unique. Board a shuttle and moor up on one of the islands you can choose from: l'île aux Moines, l'île d'Arz, Gavrinis, l'île mégalithique... a moment of pure happiness in a splendid, unspoilt environment. Hiking and cycling enthusiasts can enjoy the many signposted footpaths and cycle tracks. Lovers of board sports will also be delighted with the miles of coastline and sandy beaches: the Rhuys peninsula, the 7-island beach and Locmariaquer are ideal for diving, kitesurfing, wing foiling, kayaking, paddle boarding...
Morbihan, a must-see destination beyond the ‘Gulf’, the ‘côte Sauvage’, Carnac, Belle-Île, Pont-Aven, Quimper... We'd be delighted to help you discover this superb region!
